This is the current state of some of my dreams. Overgrown and overrun with pests.
This is what depression and lots of bad weather have allowed to happen. Looking at it and seeing how unkempt it has become is overwhelming.
Believe it or not, there are some things we planted that are growing in the garden. Strawberries, Asparagus, Cucumbers, Sweet Potatoes, Beets and pumpkins. We planted at least 20sq feet of tomatoes that never grew. I plan to get in there in the next few days and hand weed around all the actual intentional growth, then mow the rest down. Next year I will use sheet plastic and mulch to try to avoid so many weeds.
We also have this beautiful grape vine. It has been here over 30 years according to the previous owners.
However, we have an abundance of these little guys:
Last year I applied Milky Spore powder and it doesn’t seem to have helped. We have applied Beneficial Nematodes twice this year and again, no help. I’d prefer not to go the chemical route on this, but I’m not quite sure what to do. Any tips? Ideas are welcome in the comments.
Thanks for reading and wish me luck with those weeds!
